COP26: Closing the Protection Gap: How Disaster Finance Partnerships Can Protect More People on the Frontline of the Climate Crisis
This event will highlight where aid-supported disaster risk finance is having an impact on climate-vulnerable communities and the crucial role that public-private partnerships can play in backing these schemes with insurance and reinsurance cover at scale.
This event is part of the UK Presidency Pavilion at COP26, that will support the longstanding goals of the UK’s COP26 Presidency, as well as celebrate and share the lessons of UK climate leadership and successes.
It is organised by the UK Government and the Centre for Disaster Protection. Start Network''s CEO, Christina Bennett will be speaking.
About the UK COP26 Presidency Programme
In November, the UK, together with its partners Italy, will host an event many believe to be the world’s best last chance to get runaway climate change under control. Glasgow will be the culmination of work by the UK Presidency and globally over the course of 2020 and 2021.
Progressing the negotiations will be at the heart of the summit. Running alongside the negotiations, the Presidency events will accelerate urgent action to secure global net zero by mid-century and keep 1.5°C within reach; help communities and natural habitats to adapt to the impacts of climate change; demonstrate that public and private finance is being mobilised for the climate; and bring countries, businesses, civil society, and citizens together to deliver on the Paris Agreement.
This event and all UK Pavilion events will be live streamed on the UK Government YouTube
