Development Finance Forum 2016

Start Network will participate in the Development Finance Forum 2016, organised by the German government-owned development bank KFW.

This year's Development Finance Forum (DFF) will provide a platform to exchange knowledge, ideas and approaches to implement insurance against environmental and health risks.

Since the launch of InsuResilience under Germany's G7 presidency, disaster and climate risk insurance has been receiving increasing attention on the international policy agenda. In addition, social health protection plays a central role in the debate on Universal Health Coverage.

The DFF is an annual event, organized by KfW Development Bank. Its aim is to discuss key issues in development finance and to foster knowledge exchange on new initiatives and instruments.

During the two-day conference, the DFF 2016 will explore relevant risks and existing insurance schemes in respect to the SDGs. It will build on experiences and challenges presented by high level public and private sector representatives from developed and developing countries.

In various sessions over the course of two days we are trying to address and actively discuss the following questions:

• How can insurance schemes best contribute to SDG achievement?
• How should insurance products be designed in order to complement other risk management instruments?
• What are best practice examples of existing insurance schemes?
• What are the limits of insurance?
Speakers from the following organisations will also be in attendance:

• African Risk Capacity
• University of Oxford
• Bank of the Philippine Islands
• Oxfam America
• Nyala Insurance Ethiopia
• Government of Malawi
• Indonesia Medika
• Milvik (BIMA)
Part of a series of "Development Finance Forum" events, which KfW uses to offer a platform for a regular international dialogue on current development policy issues.

This event is invitation-only and not open to bookings.
