Irish Aid supports Start Fund with further 1M EUR

The Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade with responsibility for Development, Trade Promotion and North-South Co-operation, Mr. Seán Sherlock, T.D. approved an allocation of €1,000,000 from Irish Aid to the Start Fund for 2016.

The recommendation for funding was signed off by the Minister on 17th February. “We’re happy to be able to strengthen Ireland’s support to the Start Fund”, said Lisa Doherty, Deputy Director of Irish Aid's Humanitarian Unit.

This is the fourth tranche of funding Irish Aid has made to the Start Fund since its inception on 1st April 2014. It is also the largest single installment from Irish Aid to date. This 1M EUR contribution brings Irish Aid’s total contribution to 2.6M EUR.

Irish Aid is the longest standing donor to the Start Fund – making its first commitment to the Fund as early as November 2013.
