The climate crisis is a humanitarian crisis: Challenges and responses of local action to environmental displacement in Central America and Mexico


The humanitarian sector is being heavily impacted by more frequent and more severe crises as a result of climate change. It is estimated that by 2050 1.6 billion people will be exposed to heatwaves and by 2030 147 million people will be affected by floods. For Latin America and specifically for the Mesoamerican region, droughts have increased and other disasters as a consequence of climate change have resulted in increased displacement, migration, food insecurity, and deaths. Unfortunately, the humanitarian sector remains reactive, slow, and centralised, hindering effective and efficient responses to crises.   Read more...
