Somali Humanitarian Hub
The Somali Humanitarian Hub (SHH) is a locally led humanitarian system, integrating humanitarian, development, and peace programming within Somalia.
The Somali humanitarian situation is characterised by heightened conflict, climate-related disasters such as floods and drought. The reactive humanitarian response system is underfunded and led by international actors. The hub's vision is to create a vibrant system, sensitive to conflict dynamics, centred around disaster-affected communities, and committed to holistic development and peacebuilding efforts.
Somali Humanitarian Hub is a local network comprising of local and INGO members, currently with a membership of 10 (8 LNGOs and 2 INGOs).
Vision:
A vibrant locally led humanitarian system that is centred around disaster-affected communities.
Values:
- Community-centred
- Openness and integrity
- Inclusivity
We have already established a hub that has a majority of local actors; we have placed local actors in the decision-making space; and we have positioned ourselves to influence conversations around local leadership and locally led humanitarian action in a global space.Shahida Suleiman, Interim Board Member of Somalia Humanitarian Hub
Focus Areas:
- Locally led and driven: Somali Humanitarian Hub (SHH) is led by local national organisations by ensuring that interventions are deeply embedded in local contexts, with a grassroots community-based presence that makes the hub uniquely placed to respond to crises quickly and efficiently.
- Experience and Expertise: SHH member organisations possess between them decades of experience across a wide variety of programmatic interventions in the sectors of development, humanitarian aid and peace building.
- Decentralising Power: Investing in local members in the Hub, with a shared vision, programmes & policies and expanding representation from the private sector and government. Strengthen capacity to ensure local actors’ power, influence and leadership.
