Big commitments, catchy pledges, and numerous platforms to discuss locally led humanitarian action. But progress is yet to happen.
While the international community has failed to deliver the promises made, local actors are far from remaining stagnant, and through innovation, collaboration, and shifting power they keep creating a movement that shows that localisation means action. At Start Network, we believe that a more balanced international humanitarian system that shifts power to those closest to the frontline will generate more effective and appropriate support for communities affected by crises. As a membership and community, we are sharing our journey by:
-
Deconstructing what learning means and funding locally driven pathways to sharing knowledge
-
Understanding what true partnerships mean and the future role of INGOs
-
Unpacking the role of intermediaries in the funding chain and in the Start Fund
-
Analysing the models that can enable systemic shifts
-
Learning how to better support and share risk with local and national funding mechanisms
-
Understanding the equity vs. effectiveness argument to locally led action
