Climate Resilient Pakistan: Anticipatory Action Review

Pakistan is on the frontline of the global climate crisis, battling extreme weather events that are increasingly frequent, unpredictable, and devastating. From scorching heatwaves and prolonged droughts to catastrophic floods like those in 2022, which affected 33 million people and submerged a third of the country, climate change is transforming lives, livelihoods, and landscapes.

"Climate Resilient Pakistan: Anticipatory Action Review" highlights the urgent need for anticipatory action: proactive measures taken before disasters strike. By leveraging forecasts, early warnings, and community-driven solutions, these actions reduce economic losses, safeguard lives, and bridge the gap between immediate humanitarian responses and long-term development.

The review underscores the importance of localisation, advocating for solutions that prioritise local knowledge, leadership, and capacity-building. It showcases innovative approaches and the critical role of collaboration between governments, civil society, media, academia, and international organisations in creating a climate-resilient Pakistan.

With a focus on building local capacity and fostering stronger governance, the publication presents a pathway to protect the most vulnerable populations and ensure a sustainable future for Pakistan.
