Community led approaches to monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning research grant

This grant sought to enable the creation of new methodologies to measure the success and impact of humanitarian interventions. The Community-Led Approaches to Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) Research Grant was created in March 2022, with support from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation and the IKEA Foundation. This grant formed part of the Start Network’s push for a locally led humanitarian system and to meet the participation revolution commitment in the Grand Bargain, which seeks to promote the link between effective participation and the quality and effectiveness of humanitarian response.

Reflections on the High-level Humanitarian Event on Anticipatory Action

A High-level Humanitarian Event on Anticipatory Action, convened by OCHA and the Governments of Germany and the UK, took place on 9 September 2021. This brought together leaders from across governments, international financial institutions, the United Nations (UN) and civil society, who delivered powerful statements on their commitments to act to ahead of crises. Changing the humanitarian financing model for more effective assistance

At the Start Network we are constantly working towards changing the approaches to humanitarian assistance to proactively manage crises more effectively.  These include initiatives such as anticipation and forecast-based action which promotes early intervention before a crisis actually hits; and innovative insurance pilots that can release funding at scale to fund pre-agreed plans.
