The suite of e-courses for Start Ready and its Disaster Risk Financing (DRF) system is now complete with this new online course on “Start Ready Financing Arrangements” added to the portfolio. This series of courses is designed for our members, local partners and other relevant stakeholders.

The new course is hosted via Kaya Connect and offered free of charge covering the third and last pillar of the Disaster Risk Financing (DRF) approach.

Is this course for me?

This course is for Start Network members and their local partners as well as other relevant stakeholders in academic, scientific, and disaster management sectors. It is self-guided and self-paced.

How will I benefit from this course?

On completion of this course, you will be aware of:

  • Financing available globally and through Start Network for Anticipatory Action & Disaster Risk Financing;
  • Similarities and differences between Start Network's two funding mechanisms: Start Fund and Start Ready;
  • Funding layers that Start Ready accesses funds from,
  • The process to access Start Ready according to the Building Blocks Framework

How long will it take?

The course takes approximately 2.5 hours, and it is divided into 3 Units
It is advised to complete the following online courses first: Introduction to Disaster Risk Financing , Contingency planning, & Risk Analytics to build your understanding on Start Ready's proactive Disaster Risk Financing (DRF) approach and its first two pillars: planning actions & risk modelling.

Why the courses are only available in English?

Start Network tries its best to afford its resources as easier and accessible as it could be. We are working on translating the courses to several languages such as French and Spanish hoping that they can be available in both languages by 2023.

How much does it cost?

This course is free! Start Network is committed to upskilling the capacities of its members and their local partners to encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing. We are therefore invested in sharing as many beneficial opportunities as possible both within Start Network and externally.

Will I get a certificate at the end?

Yes, you will gain a certificate once you have completed all 3 Units and the field visit challenge. There is an 80% grade requirement to pass the course. However, this shouldn’t worry you because the post-course quiz (field visit challenge) can be retaken.
You will also be given the opportunity to download a digital badge. A digital badge is like a certificate, but differs slightly in that it can be stored, displayed and shared online. You can create a portfolio of badges on HPass, a platform dedicated to recognising humanitarians' skills and experience. Find out more about HPass here.
