A Review of the 2022 Organisational Strengthening Grants
Organisational Strengthening, synonymous with capacity strengthening, constitutes a pivotal component of the localisation agenda, a paradigm in which authority is decentralised and re-allocated to local and national non-government organisations (LNNGOs). By providing financial support, assistance, and time, the goal is to empower LNNGOs to cultivate resilience, enhance skills, and fortify their organisational structures whilst recognising the capacity and skill already held within the organisation. This, in turn, contributes to a more efficient and effective global humanitarian system. Despite its significance, organisational strengthening often takes a backseat in favour of crisis response or social development projects, resulting in insufficient funding allocation for this crucial endeavour.
Whilst not the primary focus of Start Network's initiatives, organisational strengthening has been the focal point of various microgrants and system-change projects with the most recent initiative being the Organisational Strengthening Grants (OSGs); microgrants strategically awarded to organisations to address specific capacity areas pre-identified as requiring attention by Start Network through the tiered-due diligence system.
