This year’s Group of Seven (G7) Presidency is under the Italian leadership. In its 2024 agenda, the year-long Italian tenure - which involves technical, ministerial, and high-level discussions - has focused on emerging economies, the climate-energy nexus, food security, and artificial intelligence, among other key worldwide challenges.

This Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Week 2024 session, ‘Anticipatory Action and Disaster Risk Management: Impact, Opportunities, and Way Forward’ unpacked the role of anticipatory action in disaster risk management, and how different stages of the crisis management cycle interact and can positively reinforce one another to have more timely, adequate and dignified responses.

G7 announcement to support pre-arranged finance necessary to saving more lives but should have gone further

Yesterday's announcement at the G7 summit included a package of support from the UK, Germany and the USA to scale up pre-arranged finance to protect the world’s most vulnerable communities against the impacts of climate change. This is a necessary step if governments are committed to saving more lives.  However, the announcement could have gone further and we are now waiting for concrete targets and a timetable around this support.

This year, our local and national members took part in the Civil Society 7 Summit hosted by the UK government and Bond. Our local and national members engaged in conversations and roundtables, discussing and making recommendations on seven priorities.
