Across the world, we have seen a consistent rise of disease outbreaks in the past decade and Start Fund has been instrumental in responding to many of them, including Cholera, Dengue fever, Ebola, and Lassa fever. Using project data from 12 activated Start Fund alerts and post-project learning exchanges from 2018 and 2019, we’ve developed four disease-specific learning papers and seven key lessons for COVID-19.

Earlier this month, torrential rain accompanied by violent wind fell on Kalima in Maniema Province, Democratic Republic of Congo, causing both material and human damage. 

July saw 7 alerts activated, with over £1,000,000 being disbursed for rapids reponses to crises in the month. 

May saw a quieter month for the Start Fund with only two Start Fund alerts activated in a global context of higher-profile alerts.

The month of April saw a diverse range of alerts raised by our members; however, amidst a context of multiple high-profile crises, the Start Fund responded to three important and under-the-radar alerts.

The month of October saw the highest alerting and activated month in the history of the Start Fund, where 13 alerts out of 15 were activated.
