Start Network is pleased to welcome Malcolm Spence as its new independent trustee.
Malcolm is the Managing Director of the Public Sector Team at the Global Innovation Fund. He is a development economist with a wealth of expertise in philanthropic strategy and operations and scaling impactful innovations in international development. He was previously Head of Learning and Strategy at Comic Relief where he also established an Innovation Fund, and is a co-founder of On call Africa, a rural health system strengthening initiative in Zambia.
He is excited to join the Start Network Board at this stage in the network’s evolution:
“I have long been an admirer of everything the Start Network stands for. It has proudly pioneered an extremely effective means of decentralising decision making and putting resources in the hands of those best placed to respond to emergencies in their communities, making a huge difference for millions of people in times of crisis. But in doing so it also shines a light on what a more effective humanitarian system could look like in a space which for too long has been characterized by a lack of accountability and dearth of innovation. Start Network has a clear vision of the future of humanitarian action and in interacting with the team the level of ambition, thoughtfulness and dedication has been palpable and contagious. I am honoured and privileged to be joining the board to play a small role in this movement and I am really looking forward to working with such a talented and committed team across this diverse community of members.”
