Start Network's commitment

We recognise locally-led, sustainable, social innovation is strengthening capacities already, and commit to promoting and facilitating such initiatives across the Network and our partners.

Meeting our commitment

A £10 million competitive window to identify and scale up innovative capacity development in disaster preparedness was launched, and Start Network is currently establishing innovation labs in four disaster-prone countries.

In the first initiative of its kind, there are more than 500 roster members available at more localised levels to respond to emergencies at short notice across national and regional shared platforms in the Philippines and Pakistan, as well as the Asia regional roster which covers 10 countries.

Innovative approaches are being piloted in a surveillance, and an early warning system for urban emergencies is currently running in informal settlements in a disaster-prone capital city.

The initiative includes community organisations, city planning, local disaster management and the national Red Cross Society.
