The transition marks a pivotal point in the evolution and growth of the Start Network. This move will enable us to scale and catalyse the change needed in revolutionising the way humanitarian aid is disbursed.

Until now the Start Network has been hosted within Save the Children UK (SCUK) where it has been incubated since it was first established in 2010 when it was known as the consortium of British Humanitarian Agencies (CBHA).

Being independent will enable the new Start Network charity to be better placed to support and drive the evolution and growth of the Start Network. This growth includes:

  • A dispersed, international network of regional and national collectives of organisations, called “hubs”
  • A global risk -based financing facility based connected to national and regional funds.
  • A global tiered due diligence database, to enable more organisations to access funds directly.

Read more about the evolution and growth of the Start Network in our vision paper.

The new independent Start Network charity will be made up of a team that delivers the core functions such as membership services, communications, fundraising, and governance. Donor grants for programmes such as the Start Fund, the Migration Emergency Response Fund, and the DEPP Innovation Labs, will not move into the new charity at the time of independence.

The only expected disruption is to email communications for the staff moving into the new charity, as we transition IT over the weekend from Friday 26th to Monday 29th April - staff delivering programmes, such as the Start Fund, MERF and DEPP Labs, will not be affected. If you are having trouble contacting a member of the team please email us on startnetwork1@gmail.com

Many people have been working closely with us through this transition and we thank everyone for all their hard work and support. We look forward to working with you in the next phase of this exciting journey!
