Start Network has joined the UN Climate Change Technical Expert Group on Comprehensive Risk Management and will be represented by Aparna Shrivastava from Mercy Corps.

In April 2019 Start Network received an invitation from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change's (UNFCCC) to join its Technical Expert Group on comprehensive risk management.

As a number of members were already involved in the work of the UNFCCC, Start Network nominated a member to take up the role on behalf of the whole network, and we are pleased to announce that Mercy Corps' Aparna Shrivastava's application has been accepted by the Executive Committee of the Warsaw International Mechanism for Loss and Damage, which runs the expert group.

This is a unique opportunity to influence a UN FCCC-level mechanism that is a key reference for governments around the world in dealing with the impacts of climate change. Though the Technical Expert Group is focused specifically on Loss and Damage, Start Network's involvement in this group allows us to be directly tied into and to influence UNFCCC processes while building the reputation of Start Network at a global level. There are multiple documents that will be updated or drafted based on the group's input and there will also be opportunities to improve upon the UNFCCC's existing knowledge platform on risk transfer.
