Start Network is pleased to announce that four new members have joined the network. The new members have joined as part of Start Network’s plans to build a more diverse network made up of organisations around the world with more local and national actors.
The new members are:
Asociación de Servicios Comunitarios de Salud (ASECSA)
Hugo Icu Peren, director of ASECSA said: “With Start Network we are united by the possibility of empowering local communities, making them actively participate in all processes, to reduce the impact of crises and make humanitarian assistance direct, timely and effective.”
BRAC International
Dr Muhammad Musa, Executive Director of BRAC International said: “It is with great pleasure that BRAC International joins the Start Network. We are very pleased to be part of a strong and forward-thinking community of organizations committed to improve humanitarian action. BRAC has been working tirelessly since 1972 for a world free from all forms of exploitation and discrimination, where everyone has the opportunity to realise their potential. This includes women, men, and children who have to face disasters, displacement, conflicts and all kinds of emergencies.
Our vision matches the Start Network’s emphasis on localization, innovation, partnership and early action. It is for all these reasons that we have joined the Start Network, for our shared values and our shared vision, and we are committed to work together with all members to bring a different and innovative approach to humanitarian action.”
Medair
David Verboom, CEO of Medair said: “Medair is excited to join the Start Network as we specialize in emergency response and work in many contexts where life-saving, rapid responses are required. We are very interested in participating and contributing to the wide range of cooperation opportunities of the Start Network, helping each other to respond better and have more efficient and effective programming, engaging with others regarding new innovative approaches and sharing learnings across the network. We also want to engage with the Start Fund allowing us all to access initial funding, which is so critical in the early stages of a sudden onset crisis, as well as for forgotten crises with little media attention but huge needs."
People In Need (PIN)
Šimon Pánek, Executive Director of PIN said: “After the years of aspirations, PIN is excited to join the Start Network community. We work closely with many existing Start Network members and the full membership will allow us to join hands in the early response to various emergencies. As we have seen on many occasions, donors community tends to act with significant delays to the situation which are not hitting the headlines, and this is exactly where we see the Start Fund contributions as indispensable. We are also interested to exchange more on the community-led innovation partnership, which has the potential to further contextualize and localize the ways the aid is delivered.
Christina Bennett, CEO of Start Network said: “I am delighted to welcome ASECSA, BRAC, Medair, and PIN into the Start Network. This is a growing movement of NGOs creating a new era of humanitarian action.
