Time to read: 3 minutes

Area of work:

We, at Start Network, are so excited to launch our next online course within the series of Start Ready Disaster Risk Financing (DRF), aimed at our members and local partners.

The new course called Risk Analytics in Start Ready DRF is also hosted via Kaya Connect and is offered free of charge covering the 2nd pillar of the Disaster Risk Financing-DRF approach.

Start Network is working on developing further online courses that will cover the last remaining pillar of the DRF system: financing arrangements; and the quality performance in the DRF system. So, keep an eye on our website to get updated on when these courses will be launched.

Is this course for me?

This course is for Start Network members and their local partners as well as other relevant stakeholders in academic, scientific, and disaster management sectors. It is self-guided and self-paced.

How will I benefit from this course?

Upon completion of this course, you will grow your knowledge on:

  •  Risk analytics role in DRF

  • Principles, elements, and components of risk analytics

  • Identification, development, and management of the required risk information and data for the decision-making process

  • Building process for the risk model and effect of basis risk

  • Usage of dynamic risk monitors

How long will it take?

The course takes approximately 2 hours and is divided into 3 Units.

It is advised to complete this online course Intro to Disaster Risk Financing and Contingency Planning to build your understanding of Start Ready's proactive Disaster Risk Financing (DRF) approach and planning actions before proceeding with the risk analytics.

Why the courses are only available in English?

We're doing our best to make our resources as simple and accessible as they can be. We are working on translating the courses to several languages such as French and Spanish hoping that they can be available in both languages by next year.

How much does it cost?

This course is free! We are committed to upskilling the capacities of our members and their local partners to encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing. We are therefore invested in sharing as many beneficial opportunities as possible both within Start Network and externally.

Will I get a certificate at the end?

Yes, you will gain a certificate once you have completed all 3 Units and the post-course quiz. There is an 80% grade requirement to pass the course. However, this shouldn’t worry you because the post-course quiz can be retaken up to three times.

You will also be granted the opportunity to download a digital badge. A digital badge is like a certificate but differs slightly in that it can be stored, displayed, and shared online. You can create a portfolio of badges on HPass, a platform dedicated to recognising humanitarians' skills and experience. Find out more about HPass here.
