The Start Network has invested in free training because it is trying to shift the humanitarian sector from reactive to proactive ways of managing aid projects, from response to early action. The training forms part of a wider area of work, known as Anticipation and Risk Financing, which is also investing in the development of new anticipatory, trigger-based and risk-based proactive financial instruments.
The first of these to be developed was the Start Fund Anticipation, which enables Start Network members to raise an alert based on the forecast of a crisis anywhere in the world. Other tools include ARC Replica in Senegal, a ‘parametric’ drought insurance policy that disburses funds early, based on pre-agreed scientific triggers; and Proactive Drought Financing: Madagascar, which enables the modelling and prediction of drought and access to funding for early action.
Developed with the Humanitarian Leadership Academy, upon completion of the course you will also receive an HPass digital badge. The development of the training was funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.
