The Start Network has received responses from more than 230 organisations in more than 60 countries, looking to create and join national and regional Start Network hubs. The hubs are being created to shift greater power and resources to those closest to humanitarian crises.

The Start Network is aiming to create national and regional hubs, which will be collectives of organisations in individual countries or regions. These hubs will function like local versions of the current international Start Network. When fully set up, each hub would manage its own finances, membership and governance, while being able to access services provided by the global Start Network.

The Start Network is seeking the views of aid agencies on a new form of membership being launched in order to shift greater power and resources to those closest to humanitarian crises.

To prepare for the change needed in the future, the Start Network’s 42 members came together over the last six months, to co-create a vision for the network, called Start Evolves, based on experience gained over our first eight years. This proposal was unanimously endorsed by our membership in November 2017.

More than 130 participants from national and international civil society organisations, donors, UN agencies and government officials attended the conference to explore what an ideal future for humanitarian action in Pakistan might look like and how we might reorient ourselves to get there.

The Start Network’s vision is to become a decentralised network of hubs at the regional and national level. To discuss the value of hubs with members, Start Network’s Neil Townsend and Bhavya Srinivasan hosted consultation meetings in Amman and Nairobi as part of Start Evolves.
