MONTHLY RISK BULLETIN ISSUED: OCTOBER 2022

The monthly risk briefing reports on new, emerging or deteriorating situations; therefore, ongoing events that are considered to be unchanged are not featured and risks that are beyond the scope and scale of the Start Fund are also not featured.

Europe

Europe contains the Start Network's London office and the majority of the HQ's of Start Network's INGO members. A number of past programmes were implemented in Europe.

Americas

The Guatemala Hub, an innovation programme and Start Network local members are all present in the Americas.

Asia

Currently, two hubs are active and three are being developed in Asia, two national Start Funds and two Disaster Risk Financing systems are present with two FOREWARN networks already active and one in development. Asia has innovation programmes and local members that can access organisational strengthening grants.

Small grants

Details of small grants available for Start Network members.

SKILL grant

Grants of up to £15,000 for local members that support research and peer learning are being piloted from June 2021 to September 2022.

Start Fund – Global

This fund provides rapid humanitarian funding to underfunded small and medium scale crises, forecasts of crises and spikes in chronic crises.

Anticipation Tool grant

These grants enable Start Network members to access up to £40,000 for developing analysis tools to support anticipation of crises.

Analysis for Action grant

This grant is designed to enable agencies to better understand a potential crisis, to decide whether to raise an anticipation alert to the Start Funds.
