A New Model For Governance & Membership In The Network

This session was an opportunity to re-engage with the proposed changes to Start Network's governance and membership structures, in line with our shift towards a distributed model of power and decision making. Reflecting on the outcomes of the Crisis Response Resilience Lab

In October 2021, Complexity University in partnership with Start Network and The Global Fund for Community Foundations (GFCF) launched the first radical, action-focused innovation programme for community-led impact in the aid sector. The Crisis Response and Resilience Lab was a 2-week intensive action-learning programme, the first of its kind, aimed at supporting humanitarian practitioners to experience and learn a new way of working in response to complex humanitarian challenges. The monthly risk briefing reports on new, emerging or deteriorating situations; therefore, ongoing events that are considered to be unchanged are not featured and risks that are beyond the scope and scale of the Start Fund are also not featured. It is collated by the Start Network Anticipation and Risk Financing team using information from academia and research institutes, government departments, ACAPS, global risk indexes, risk information provided by Start Members and their partners, and the media. Key risks are shared and collated each month with FOREWARN input.

Indicators of success from a community-perspective

We followed two quite different types of assistance- the first being a cooling facility and behaviour messaging programme to help during the heatwave in Pakistan, and the second being the provision of non-food items for those displaced following a volcanic eruption in DRC.
